Quinn to open Ballinamore Festival
Former billionaire Sean Quinn will officially open this year’s Ballinamore Festival in Co Leitrim. In a statement to Northern Sound, the group Concerned Irish Citizens say many people have indicated that they want to hear the Cavan businessman speak – and so he was invited to launch the event.
Sean Quinn will address the crowd at 4pm once he opens the 47th annual festival this Sunday, August 11th. The Quinn family is currently embroiled in a legal battle with the IBRC over debts to the former Anglo. Patricia Gilheany – spokesperson for Concerned Irish Citizens – said in her statement to Northern Sound: “This year, the official opening will be performed on Sunday next, 11th August at 4pm by the greatest entrepreneur of all times, Sean Quinn, who will address the crowd following a performance by the Mountain Road Marching Band at 3pm.
It is truly fitting that Sean Quinn will officially open this year’s festival as he and his family have enjoyed unprecedented support in Leitrim, along with the neighbouring counties. The official opening will be followed by an open air concert by Mick Flavin. Other entertainment for the week includes The Gathering Dinner Dance, Patrick Feeney, Set Dance Ceili, Jump at the Sun, Fancy Dress Parade, Shaun Loughrey the Benn sisters, Big Generator and a fireworks display.”
