"TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO GET THE RIGHT RESULT FOR THE TAXPAYER" says John McCartin.
Despite numerous attempts by the Quinn family to work with Anglo/IBRC/Kieran Wallace to obtain the least costly outcome for the taxpayer, it is now apparent that once again the taxpayers are going to be the big losers in this debacle as common sense and decency are clearly not attributes possessed by those in authority who could have ended this shameful episode long ago. IBRC has lost all credibility, if it ever had any, as details of the Siteserv scandal emerge, yet the decision makers are not taking over and making the correct decisions re. Quinn.
The Sunday Business Post today headlines "67 witnesses due in Quinn Anglo epic battle" and goes on to list expert witnesses, Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev, and adjunct Professor in finance at TCD, Shane Corbert, a lecturer in finance at DCU and German Banking Professional Wolfgang von Eckartsberg .
Other witnesses to take the Stand will be Sean Quinn, Patricia Quinn and their five adult children. Sean Fitzpatrick, Patrick Neary, Ann Nolan (Dept Finance), others who managed the family's finance with the bust bank including a number of staff from KPMG are also on the list. Also included are former Board Members of Anglo, Donal O'Connor, Fintan Drury, Gary McGann, Patrick Whelan and Lar Bradshaw. Lawyer Robert Heron, and Matt Moran are also included. Former Governor of the Central Bank, John Hurley and former Secretary General of the Dept of Finance, Kevin Cardiff (the man who mislaid millions) can also expect a call.
John McCartin did his very best to bring about a resolution to this fiasco and if the decision makers have an iota of common sense, they will yet listen to his wise words. However, that appears increasingly unlikely and we can look forward to hearing the Quinns finally having their say and get justice through the courts, even if it is at an enormous cost to the taxpayer. Mind you, cost to the taxpayers has never been a concern for the decision makers to date in this witch hunt but one can only hope.
Separately, a parliamentary question has been submitted to the Dept. Finance requesting details of how much this fiasco has cost to date in terms of legal fees, PR etc for Anglo, how much has been recouped and how this compares with the offer of 2.8 billion euros that was offered by the Quinn family to the State. This question will HAVE TO BE ANSWERED ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, and the prospect of the mammoth battle to begin this week will very significantly add to this cost.
