I read with interest the piece from Sean McCarthaigh that a cashless society would save us €1 billion (April 5).
This conjures up some queries I have had with the Central Bank for some time. What is the institution at now?
Is this the same Central Bank that told us in 2007 “the fundamentals of Irish banks were sound”
Is this the same Central Bank whose high-ranking officials (and Department of Finance) all have sterling and dollar accounts which is perfectly legal but shows their confidence in the Euro?
Is this the same Central Bank which has special arrangements for their high officials to cash cheques internally and bypassing the commercial banks which all of us plebs have to use.
