DON'T CLOSE UP AND LOSE THE JOBS!

It was disappointing to hear a well-known local broadcaster advocating the closure of the Quinn Group this morning. It is difficult to see what that will achieve except job losses and further decimation of the local area.

It is hard to see any benefit at all to closing up shop at the moment, although if the performance and profits of the business continue to drop, that may ultimately happen anyway. At least keeping it open allows a lot of people to get out while they can, and find other jobs for themselves. A large number of people entering the job market together in the Cavan/Fermanagh area would surely be the worst possible outcome for everyone.

Maybe what was said was said without much thought. We however have already received calls from concerned employees, and the overwhelming reaction has been dismay that someone that they perceived to be an advocate of theirs, should turn against them.
