News is
reaching us from concerned workers on the SRF project at Quinn Cement Ballyconnell,
County Cavan about safety once they start operations burning SRF which is
supposed to start the first week of September?
The £16
million project announced with all the hype that usual follows anything the present
management do is a completer disaster. Only last week we reported how the
Project Managers were lacking in project management skills.
This is now even worse
news and workers could die unless this fault is rectified immediately.
SRF is a
highly inflammable material and if a fire started it would mean the destruction
of over 50% of the Cement factory. That is why certain safety procedure must be
implemented in a project of this nature and protect the workers no matter what the
cost.
Highly inflammable product and no sprinkler system in
place to stop a fire where this SRF is stored ready for the furnace is a disaster waiting to happen.
No one
working there is sure what no sprinkler system was not installed and none of the
Projects Mangers are saying anything.
Did they
make a huge mistake in not installing this essential sprinkler system or was it
deliberately done to save money?
Certainly the
SRF project is now not fit for purpose and a danger to anyone working there.
We
hope the company Health and Safety officer will step in and declare this work place
unsafe until this design fault is rectified.
We are
warning all workers to stay away from this area until the sprinkler system is
installed and tested fully.
It seems
Paul O’Brien and Kieran Leonard are more concerned with their own safety than
the workers at Quinn Cement.
