A deal between the former Quinn Group and CEVA Logistics which involved outsourcing the Aventas transport fleet has now been discontinued. The news comes just days after a transit van was driven into a CEVA premises in the Little Island area of Cork city on Friday night and then set on fire.
The attack is similar to those which have been happening at the Aventas Group along the Cavan Fermanagh border. Last February, The Aventas Group announced they were outsourcing their transport fleet to CEVA Logistics. But now, that agreement is off. The news was confirmed to Northern Sound this evening (Tuesday) by an Aventas spokesperson. In what’s being seen as a similar style attack on Aventas companies in recent months, a van, loaded with a flammable substance, was driven into the CEVA offices at the Waterfront Business Park at Little Island.
The incident took place just before midnight. Several units of the fire brigade were called to the scene. The van was gutted in the incident, however it’s understood the building was not damaged. No one was injured. In previous incidents an oil tanker was smashed into the doors of Aventas, a bus set alight, while hundreds of homes were left without phone or broadband services in a petrol bomb attack. Sean Quinn has previously condemned the attacks saying those responsible were not acting in his name. Gardai say they are still trying to establish a motive for this latest attack.
