4 YEARS COMPLETELY WASTED.
As we approach the 4th anniversary of that fateful day in April 2011 when Europe's greatest Industrialist,Sean Quinn and his family and Senior Managers were disgracefully ousted from the company that was the ultimate pride of the Region, it is truly heartbreaking to realize what could have been.
When we consider the fact that the Quinn Group created an average of 250 additional jobs per year for 4 decades, and taking into account the fact that over 2000 jobs were lost in Quinn companies during the four years since it was placed into the wrong hands, one has to ask where is the justice in all of this.
No doubt, it will take years to rebuild the company to its former glory (what's left of it) and yet the Quinn family are not free to do what they do best (create jobs).
If the Quinn Proposal had not been discarded in such controversial circumstances, we the taxpayers would be better of the the tune of billions and the insurance consumers would not be paying a levy which was wrongfully called down by the administrators who initially said that Quinn Direct was a profitable company but later contradicted themselves without any accountability or questions from anyone.
While we greatly welcome the recent announcement of the tourism project which promises to create hundreds of jobs in Ballymahon, we also must remember that Sean Quinn created thousands of jobs and there was no fanfare or blowing of trumpets.
No, we all took him for granted. Yes, 4 years of this genius's life has been completely wasted at a time when our country and particularly our region needed him most, not to mention the torture that he and his family have been put through.
We in the Border Region are not prepared to see his valuable time wasted any more. This madness has to end and not be dragged out when we need him and his family and we need them NOW.
Our patience is limited and it has been sorely tested.
We recall the comments of a well known GAA Official who said on Good Friday in 2012, "Today, Sean Quinn is being crucified on the cross".
We have watched him being crucified for 4 long years and who has benefited only the fat cat vultures who stripped the carcass bare.
Who,apart from the Quinn family has suffered? The answer to that is:"every person on this Island has suffered and none more so than the people of the disadvantaged Border Region".
ITS TIME TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR ALL OF US. WE WILL TOLERATE NOTHING LESS.
